Devlog 01 – Beginning the World

April 21, 2025

This is the beginning of the world. Or at least the beginning of how I’m building it.

The place I’m constructing exists parallel to our own — not clearly before or after, but as a fold in time. It's shaped by memory, by emotional residue, by the way thoughts seem to loop and repeat. I aim for it to be layered rather than linear.

Right now I’m working on the base zone; a test area that might grow into something larger over time. It does not bring forward much of any clear aesthetic direction of my intent for now since this is the beginning of the project. This part is about structure, function, and grounding.

I’ve started sketching out the idea for different types of AI driven entities. One group, the “Light Flower collectors” are characters that move across the landscape, gathering something luminous; it’s not clear why. Perhaps it's the shining light in a dark place; a placeholder for greed or functionality? These characters might seem simple at first, though internally, they most likely present more complex dynamics, hidden from the outside. Their appearances might seem uniform — but not all of them are the same.

The place they inhabit is overgrown and layered. Architecture fuses with landscape. Hanging roots reach down from above. The underground is dark and soft, but something still glows. There’s a kind of silent sadness in this world, but also beauty in that same silence.

I’ve also started thinking about how the world works. There’s no strict hierarchy of lifeforms; instead, everything seems to loop. I have yet to figure out if there will be life cycles or not.

Some of these ideas might become systems. Others might just be background or stay as ideas rather than implementations.

For now, the goals are simple:

This log isn’t just for others. It’s for me too — to keep track of the world as it grows, and to remember why I’m making it.

Devlog 02 – Modular Building

April 29, 2025

I’ve started working on the modular base building for the main zone.

Right now, it’s still clean and functional, more like a skeleton. The focus is on form, scale, and how the parts connect. I’m testing different modules to find a rhythm that fits the world I’m slowly shaping. It’s not yet a ruin, but it will become one. That’s the plan.

This early stage is about making sure the building feels grounded before layering on decay. Later, I’ll start breaking parts of it apart, distorting edges, and letting vegetation take over the structure. But for now, I’m keeping materials simple and letting the shapes stay bare.

I’ve been experimenting with dirt and weathering using the basic brush tool in Blender, keeping the process simple and diverging slightly from realism. It’s helping me get a feel for how far I want to push the mood later on. The building doesn’t define the project’s tone yet, but it’s a foundation to build on and hopefully solid enough to return to as I add more complexity.

Still moving slowly. Still figuring it out as I go.
